QED LAW

The following request for information was made to the University:

“For each of the foundation of legal knowledge / core law subjects taught on undergraduate programmes provided by the University:

(a) the average mark attained by students sitting the first examination in each subject in the academic year 2009/10.

Please provide the information based on the actual marks attained in the respective examinations and not on ‘compensated’ or ‘capped’ marks.

Please exclude data related to resit examinations taken at a later exam. Where, for example, the first examination was taken in May 2010 and there was a resit examination in August 2010 the average mark should be based on the marks attained by all students taking the exam in May, whether or not they were sitting the examination for the first time or resitting. The marks attained by students in the August resit should not be taken into account.

(b) the percentage of students attaining an examination mark of 40 or above in the first examination for each of the subjects in the academic year 2009/10

Again, as above, please base calculations on the actual marks attained and limited to the first examination.

The information requested should be restricted to those who, by the university’s regulations, sat the examination so please exclude those who failed to attend the examination and may have been awarded a mark of zero.”

Woody Allen started as a script writer for The Ed Sullivan show and then, aged 26,  debuted in the Duplex, Greenwich Village as a stand up comedian. Wrote for popular 60′s tv programme, Candid Camera before becoming playwright, screenplay writer, actor and director.

Legal Practice Course (LPC) providers were asked for the following information in respect of years 1997/8 and 2007/8:

(a) The total number of the students enrolled on the university’s full time LPC;
(b) The number awarded a ‘pass’ at the first attempt;
(c) The number awarded a ‘distinction’ at the first attempt;
(d) The number awarded a ‘commendation’ at the first attempt;
(e) The number failing / failing to complete the course at the first attempt.

Based on the information provided, the table below shows, as a percentage of the total awards, the awards for each class in the years indicated.

Please note that the figures relate to the first exam attempts and so the fail/failed to complete figures includes all students who, for any reason, did not complete at the first attempt. It may include those entitled to resit some or all of their exams at a later sitting and awaiting reassessment. It may also include those who withdrew from the course without taking the examinations.
